A promising looking GPS app for iPhone users is not available for download, despite ads to the contrary.I got my July/August copy of Golf Tips magazine in the mail over the weekend, and on page 11, there's a splashy ad for a splashy new GPS rangefinder from GolfLogix, one that has an iPhone front and center in their print ad.
"Golflogix is now available to download on the world's best-selling smartphones" it says, adding that it's a free download. So I head over to their site, try to download the application in order to compare it to the gold standard of golfing GPS devices, the Sky Caddie SG5, except there's no software to download...yet. I tried the Apple App Store, iTunes and the link on the web site, but there's no there there.
You know that they are disappointed over there at Golf Logix HQ that their product is not ready at the same time their expensive ad campaign hit the sheets.
What Golf Logix looks to eventually sell looks promising. I've tried several golf GPS applications on my iPhone, but have yet to find one that measures up to Sky Caddie. From the screen shots I saw - with clearly labelled distances for not only the center of the green but also for carries over hazards and another for layups to 150 yards, Golf Logix may well be the killer GPS app for the iPhone. Problem is, that remains to be seen, because at this point, it's little more than vapor ware.
Hopefully, I can remember to check back in a couple of weeks to see if the iPhone app store has something available. Oh, that's right, set a reminder. There's an app for that.
Seriously, I have forwarded a query to the Golf Logix media relations folks to see if they can offer any insight, and when they get back to me, I'll provide an update.

iPhone 3G/3G-S: We are currently awaiting approval from iPhone. As soon as more information is available you will be sent an email with any updates. Our app is compatible with iPhone 3G and 3G-S and works with 3.0.
Blackberry Curve: To install and operate GolfLogix GPS, you must have one of the following BlackBerry Curve models equipped with GPS functionality:

BlackBerry 8900
To find your BlackBerry Curve model number, on your BlackBerry Curve go to Settings>Options>About. The first line shown on the screen describes the model number of your BlackBerry Curve.
Please note, Verizon Wireless does not allow 3rd party GPS applications (such as GolfLogix GPS) on their BlackBerry Curve and Bold models. However, Verizon does allow GPS applications on the BlackBerry Storm 9530 and we are scheduled to have GolfLogix available on this model in August.
Smartphone Release Schedule: By the end of July, the GolfLogix Smartphone software will be available for the BlackBerry Bold. In August, we are scheduled to release our Smartphone software for the BlackBerry Storm. In September, the GolfLogix Smartphone software is scheduled to be available for Windows Mobile devices (such as the HTC Touch/Fuze). We have already started development on the Google Android and Nokia Symbian Smartphone platforms and will provide email updates as soon as we have launch dates scheduled.
